A Supporting Female Character in a Musical: Janet van de Graaf in The Drowsy Chaperone
When men say I’m sweet and they fall at my feet
My heart doesn’t beat any faster
But when you lose control
It touches my soul
So I’m bracing myself for disaster

Never-ending List of Favorite Stage Performances - Beth Leavel as “The Chaperone” in The Drowsy Chaperone
Before I ever saw The Drowsy Chaperone, I wondered why Sutton Foster wasn’t the person who won the Tony Award for The Drowsy Chaperone. Sutton was supposedly the star, Broadway’s sweetheart, so I assumed it would be her. I was surprised that someone I never heard of took home Best Supporting Actress. And then I saw the show. And I learned what a remarkable actress Beth Leavel is. Leavel’s Chaperone took the show and ran away with it. She was boozy, ridiculous, and my God can that woman belt for a long time. While The Drowsy Chaperone was undoubtedly an ensemble effort, Leavel shone above the rest with class, elegance, and enough divatude to command the stage, even when Broadway’s sweetheart was on it, and bring an entire audience to tears of laughter.

Day 11: A Favorite Comic Number
I have to go with this absolute gem: “I Am Aldolpho” from The Drowsy Chaperone. I find this show hysterical, and Danny Burstein is a STAR. Also Beth being awesome because awesome.
